Nature of the Erzgebirge
...and picturesque locations make the Erzgebirge one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany’s uplands. Here, one can discover pristine nature just about everywhere.
A large part of the Erzgebirge is in the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park which extends between Bad Elster (Vogtland) and Holzhau (eastern Erzgebirge) along the Saxon-Bohemian border and includes important protected areas and natural landmarks of the region. The Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park is the longest of Germany’s nature parks, extending for 120 kilometres. Thus, it is no wonder that you can find rare animal and plant species here.
The natural beauty of the region can be best admired from one of its many mountain peaks. When the weather is good, you can stand on the Fichtelberg and even see Leipzig, which is 120 kilometres away.
When you live in the Erzgebirge, the sustainable interaction with nature is commonplace. It is thus understandable that people are very familiar with the consequences of ill-considered interventions in this area. Exemplary care of the forests, resource-saving businesses and environmentally-friendly tourism are permanent components of an overall value-creation chain.
